$180

with Jeremy Foy

Calendar Jun 4, 2024 at 1:45 pm, runs for 4 weeks

Young artists will be introduced to the world of ceramics with this comprehensive four-week class that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:45 pm to 4:15 pm. This class is tailored to first-time students who have little to no prior experience working with clay. Throughout the course, they will have the opportunity to make cups, bowls, mugs, plates, and small vases with hand-building and wheel throwing. They will learn how to trim, add handles and feet, and utilize a handful of decoration techniques from carving to glazing.

Participants will learn skills such as wedging clay using the slab roller, extruder, and pottery wheel, and proper artwork storage. Emphasizing repetition of action, this class aims to create an understanding of how to throw on the pottery wheel.

Note: A 25-pound bag of clay, glazes and kiln firings are included in the course. Participants will learn how to wedge clay, safely store artwork, and glaze their pieces by dunking and brushing. This class will focus on quantity and repetition of practice to build the skill for quality.

This course can be repeated as needed to build and refine skills.
